Drug Rehabilitation
It has been over a year since Bill and Elvera last visited the Centro de Transformación in the Dominican Republic and there have been significant changes. Many men have left, new ones have come. Some men have graduated from the program and are functioning well back in their communities, others are back on the streets. That is how it goes when one is working with people struggling with their addictions.
However, the Centre itself continues to be a place of peace and a place of healing. I am always amazed at the sense of peace that I get when we enter the “compound”, the property. There is a feeling of community, a feeling of love and cooperation among the men. It’s not a place of frantic activity with lots of programs, but it is a place where men are valued, where they are loved and where they are safe, secure, and cared for. The love and acceptance of our Saviour Jesus Christ is modelled for the men every day.
Through the financial support that we offer through DevXchange, we are making a significant difference in the lives of the men who come to the Centre. At the Centre they are given shelter, food and clothing. They are rescued from a debilitating lifestyle and taught strategies to prevent further substance abuse. We are changing lives of men in the DR and thereby also impacting their families and their children. What a privilege this is. Thank you to anyone who chooses to support this ministry.
