Projects in Kenya 2021

Heart of Ruth

Heart of Ruth Mission is a hands on loving organization providing educational opportunities and financial support to facilitate growth and self-sustainability at Rainbow House Children’s Home.

Heart of Ruth Mission had a tough year in 2021, much like the rest of the world. Due to COVID-19 we were unable to have in-person fundraisers. HoRM had a regrouping of our board members in late 2021 and renewed our passion to succeed in 2022. Heart of Ruth hosted various online fundraisers to support fixing the broken school van at Rainbow House Children’s Home as well as continuing education. The school van is now fixed and will continue to transport our students to their high-school in Malindi. Our best fundraiser was an online craft auction. We usually host an in-person craft show but in 2021 we changed it up and provided an online version. Kenya items were purchased all over Ontario and we are so thankful. Like Cananda, school was disrupted the last couple of years and Kenya is working on getting the students back on track. Usually the school year ends in December with final exams, and restarts in January. Semesters were changed and by the end of 2022 school will be back on track. Heart of Ruth Mission thanks all our donors who, despite a global pandemic, still managed to support our education program and various projects including the van repairs and emergency food donations. HoRM looks forward to volunteer trips and in-person events in 2022!

Watoto Wetu Scholarship

The project provides scholarships to Kenyan children who are unable to attend school. Many of the children the project is helping have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and are unable to afford basic necessities and educational costs.

Eugene has been in Fadhili Watoto wetu since form two- 2018 and completed his form four (grade 12) last year 2021 having scored C- in his final exams. He received an invitation to join Mombasa technical university to pursue Diploma in human resource management. He joined in February 2022 with a lot of excitement to do his best. His fee is Ksh121,000/= per year plus hostel and upkeep. It is a three year course.

Novian joined Fadhili’s support last year in form two. Previously, she was in a day secondary school where she faced a lot of challenges from meeting wild animals along the road to or from school to witnessing bad gang attack her fellow student harming her. She is trying to catch up with boarding life as she feels there is more time to studies in boarding than in day school. Thanks to the supporters! Her next years’ fee and upkeep is around 75,000/=

Shema is the third born of 4. He has been under Fadhili’s care since he began grade one owing to the reason that his family who are refugees could not afford his fee and yet he is a bright student. He then joined Primary boarding last year after the Covid pandemic-their former school lost students as many parents could not afford the fee (it was a private primary school) forcing the few students who were left to transfer Shema included, and the school got shut for some time. He is always in the top ten and hence expecting good results in the just completed grade 8 exams. Shema will be joining form one in April this year and being a sharp student, he might get a good school charging around Ksh 100,000/= for the year upkeep included
