Adult Literacy India
We thank Dev Exchange for the funds provided for conducting Adult Literacy Programs in two centers. The teachers and students in Deri Faliya and Tanki Faliya centers were enthusiastic in teaching and learning. Though we were very much discouraged by the ‘No, we don’t want’ responses of the Kotwaliya people, the Lord led Ayub, our Kotwaliya worker to the right groups with the help of interested pastors. The people of two centers who have completed the program successfully were full of enthusiasm which could not be affected neither by the heavy rain nor by their hard work as labourers throughout the day that made them extremely tired in the evening. Their interest and commitment to learn and also to read God’s word superseded the hurdles they faced.
But in the third group which had to be cancelled after one week half of the group decided to dropout as they felt too tired to come to class after a day of hard work which caused the other half to lose their opportunity to learn. The teacher gave up as half of the students didn’t want to learn making her not want to teach. The number of students completed the program is 29, which is only one lesser than the number we expect for 3 centers. We didn’t lose much. Now the pastors are asking for the program to be conducted for their people also as all the people of their region do not know how to read and write. Please pray that the people will come forward with enthusiasm and commitment to learn.
