💡 What Devxchange Does
Devxchange International is a Canadian registered charity that supports charitable activities carried out by local community groups outside Canada. Through our Grant Agreement model, Devxchange provides oversight, transparency, and accountability while ensuring every activity aligns with our charitable purposes and Canadian charity law.
Our name Devxchange, stands for “Development Exchange” and reflects our belief that learning, sharing, and collaboration create stronger communities.
Our registered charitable purposes include:
- advancing education and vocational training
- improving health and community well-being
- supporting clean water and sanitation
- promoting agriculture, agroforestry, and environmental restoration
- strengthening livelihoods and income generation
Every activity we support must fit within these purposes and follow CRA requirements for documentation, oversight, and responsible fund use.
🌍 How It All Began
Devxchange was founded by Tom and Beth Fellows, who envisioned a more personal, community-driven approach to international development. After decades of humanitarian work, they designed a model where local groups lead their own charitable activities, and Canadians help support those activities through communication, reporting, and fundraising. This approach ensures projects remain ethical, sustainable, and rooted in local leadership.
👥 Your Role as a Project Lead
As a Project Lead Volunteer (PLV), you help Devxchange stay informed about a charitable activity by supporting communication, reporting, and fundraising. The local group leads the on-the-ground work; Devxchange provides oversight; and you help maintain the flow of information that connects the two.
Your responsibilities include:
- communicating regularly with the local group
- supporting the annual budget and quarterly reporting
- helping gather documentation and progress updates
- supporting Devxchange’s fundraising efforts for the charitable activity
- collaborating with Devxchange staff through our communication platforms
- ensuring updates and activities remain aligned with Devxchange’s charitable purposes
You’re not working independently — you’re carrying out Devxchange’s charitable activities under our registered framework.
💰 Fundraising and Accountability
PLVs support fundraising within Devxchange’s charitable framework.
All funds raised for the charitable activity must be processed through Devxchange so that:
- donations are properly recorded
- financial tracking remains transparent
- CRA compliance is maintained
PLVs support fundraising by:
- sharing Devxchange-approved donation links
- promoting official Devxchange campaigns
- using approved messaging and materials
- helping organize in-person events (with all funds submitted through Devxchange)
Devxchange disburses funds to the local group based on the approved budget, Grant Agreement, and the amount raised for that activity.
