Projects in DR Congo 2022
Cyber Matters
I made 12 trips in 11 years and now am amazed how smoothly everything went. I am deeply grateful for the assistance that “DI” gave me. My last trip was in October 2019 just a few months before the Covid lockdown. Then on March 22nd I turned 90 so any bigger trips to Africa are a bit more daunting.
Let me share one snippet: On my first trip (of 3) to the DRC the National organization I was serving assigned 7 young people to work with me and assist with the installations that I had come to do. One of those young people had all of the aptitudes that I was looking for. So I spoke to the “Recteur” (Director of the University) to ask if they had any plans to start a Computer Sciences program at the school. He answered that is what we have been praying for, for 10 years. I responded that I had chosen one of my helpers and that I would do my best to find a scholarship for him so that he could earn a degree and start such a discipline at the school. The end goal was to see a marked increase in the enrollment at this University.
That happened; my “chosen” student finished his training, at the top of his class, and has returned to launch the Computer program. Just two weeks ago he wrote me a news filled letter and shared that the Registrar at the University had just informed him that there is a noticeable increase in enrollments. That was music to my ears.
Dev’ Exchange helped make that happen. Thank you Bob and the whole team.
