Projects in Uganda 2022
Caring for Kids
Good day.
My name is Joyce Sekalala. I am the lead member of Caring for Kids/Concern for rural lives Uganda, a project under Devxchange. I would like to thank Devxchange for trusting me to be one of their lead members. In the past few years, the project has faced financial challeges as a result of increase in prices for food commodities and scholartic materials. But we thank God that regardless of all challenges, we have managed to continue providing meals to three schools and paid tuition to a total of 12 children in both primary and secondary schools. Unfortunately, in this past year 2022, one of our sponsored child chose to quit school and went back to the streets and we pray that the good God will keep him safe. The project have faced financial stresses due to COVID as we have not been able to hold any fundraiser dinners which in the past were our major contributors to our yearly budget. On a positive side, one of our sponsored child is graduating next month from the school of designing. This is one of our success stories as this girl was rescued from childhood marriage at the age of 13 and since then she has worked hard to better her life.
Greenfield Kids Foundation
This is the Greenfield Kids Foundation. We are currently building a school for the needy children of Rubanda, Uganda. The Greenfield Nursery and Primary school educates more than 400 students and growing in numbers every year. Our students do well in exams and are getting recognized by the school board and government. We’ve built 5 buildings to school and house the children. We also have built a kitchen, food storage and a latrine. We have a water source via pipeline. Many staff and students stay at the school throughout the week because travel can be very dangerous in early hours and over such long distances. Our school provides and education to children age 3 to 17, as well as providing at least 2 meals a day which is more than some would receive at home. We have our own garden that produces food for the children and staff. Children learn, play, sing, dance and play sports at the Greenfield school. Our school has become a very important part of our community. Thanks to Devxchange, our children have been meeting their goals for a better future. Thanks Devxchange for helping us help others.
Kwagala
Kwagala, in Uganda, specifically the rural communities of Kampala and in Mubende, as well as the slums of the city.
We originally decided to work with DevXchange because we wanted our donors to get “official tax receipts” for their generous donations to our project. Before DevXchange, our donors were giving without receiving tax receipts.
The number one lesson learned from this endeavour is to empower the people to help themselves into the future and become independent of donations. This is done primarily by making sure that they access an education and are fed while they learn. Which brings to mind the memory of children refusing to go home at the end of the day because they thrive at the school, bond with many peers and now consider this compound their community. This kind of success can’t be measured but is experienced day by day. Looking back after many years we see the success of these students graduating not only from High School but also post secondary with a real hope for their future.

Still a slow recovery from the Covid. Safari businesses, of which we had relied on, are now starting to reopen. Ours though, not so, as yet. But are we disillusioned? Not at all. We are optimistic and full of vim and vigour about the future. We just had our largest donation ever. We are committed to make this Orphanage and the lives on our children a success and a safe community for those in need. Time to branch out and encourage other projects in Uganda in how we can support each other in our endeavours. Please enjoy the faces of excited children who are thanking you already in anticipation.

Neema Child Project
Neema Child Project supports nearly 200 children within their programs with the goal of bringing hope and a brighter future to children who have been victimized by the effects of AIDS, civil war and under-developed social systems. With a focus on education and the provision of basic daily needs such as food, housing, clothing and medical care.
Throughout the last three years, the project has struggled due to the pandemic but has carried on its mission, by the Grace of God. In 2022, we saw the return of the annual Neema Christmas Dinner, where thousands of orphaned and impoverished children came to get a hot meal, cake and a feeling of community and love. New this year was an Easter gathering, where children received cookies, as a special treat. These two events could not have occurred without the generosity of our sponsors and our amazing team of volunteers.
As well, in 2022, The Masunkwe Project, our sustainability project, continued to grow beans, coffee and other crops, to feed the village of Masunkwe, to raise funds to improve the village’s living conditions and provide a safe place for the children in our care.
Finally, in 2022, we also have been able to provide school fees for many students, who otherwise, could not receive an education. Students like Dan and Marjorie thank you, our sponsors, for changing their lives.
God Bless you for making a huge difference in the lives of the children in the care of Neema Child Project. We are optimistic that in 2023, with your assistance, we will be able to continue to grow as a project, and help more impoverished children to be educated and to receive the basic necessities in life such as food, clean water, clothing, medical care and the feeling of being loved.
