Projects in Uganda 2023
Caring for Kids
Good day.
My name is Joyce Sekalala. I am the lead member of Caring for Kids/Concern for rural lives Uganda, a project under Devxchange. I would like to thank Devxchange for trusting me to be one of their lead members. In the past few years, the project has faced financial challeges as a result of increase in prices for food commodities and scholartic materials. But we thank God that regardless of all challenges, we have managed to continue providing meals to three schools and paid tuition to a total of 12 children in both primary and secondary schools. Unfortunately, in this past year 2022, one of our sponsored child chose to quit school and went back to the streets and we pray that the good God will keep him safe. The project have faced financial stresses due to COVID as we have not been able to hold any fundraiser dinners which in the past were our major contributors to our yearly budget. On a positive side, one of our sponsored child is graduating next month from the school of designing. This is one of our success stories as this girl was rescued from childhood marriage at the age of 13 and since then she has worked hard to better her life.
Greenfield Kids Foundation
We are the Greenfield Nursery and Primary school in Rubanda Uganda. We currently have 475 students enrolled at our school. Our school focuses on demolishing poverty with education. A lot of our students are orphaned or the neediest children of our district. Most of our students cannot afford education or 2 nutritious meals a day.
Our school feeds, educates, boards and inspires children to be the best version of themselves and Devxchange plays a major part of this process. We feel with proper education, nutritious meals, and kind caring staff at the greenfield school, our children can achieve great things and break the cycle of poverty.

A Year in Review 2023:
January started with renewed hope as the lockdown had finally ended and Uganda was officially Ebola-Free. We were also able to celebrate the ONE year anniversary of our newly built Destiny High School. On that note, in February, our elementary school students took their national exams and ALL of the students passed and were promoted to high school.
In March, our medical clinic reached out to the surrounding community to serve them, receiving treating many. The planning phase began for a 2nd floor to the high school as the number of students who will be graduating in the next 2 years will require expansion.
In April, the students were able to harvest food from the many gardens which they had planted and worked. June started with the 2nd term of schooling and the medical clinic team working tirelessly to treat the kids, staff and surrounding communities. We also started our “Piggery Project”, where we loan 2 pigs to families and after they have a litter, they return the pigs back to us to pass on to the next family. Fundraising started at $50 per pig and the Piggery Project went into full swing.
July began with donations coming in for the bricks to start the 2nd floor of our high school and in August donations continued for the iron bars & cement, keeping construction going into September.
By November, we were able to see and treat 400 patients at our free clinic. Our woodshop is now in continuous use, teaching students and completing projects around the campus.
To end the year, we could see the 2nd floor of the high school getting closer to completion. We also saw a large number of kids graduate from Kindergarten in spite of the many cases of malaria due to the rainy season. We were able to treat and care for these at our medical clinic. We also held a successful youth camp for more than 300 students, empowering the younger generation, before breaking for the Christmas Holidays.
Love Uganda
The Love Uganda campaign focuses on addressing the urgent needs of orphaned children in Uganda, many of whom have lost parents to HIV/AIDS or have been rescued from abusive situations. The initiative aims to provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can receive care, education, and the necessities of life. Led by Rev. Dr. Arthur Davies and Alex Davies, the project seeks to create a supportive community that not only meets the children’s immediate needs but also offers long-term stability and unconditional love.
Neema Child Project
Neema Child Project supports nearly 200 children within their programs with the goal of bringing hope and a brighter future to children who have been victimized by the effects of AIDS, civil war and under-developed social systems. With a focus on education and the provision of basic daily needs such as food, housing, clothing and medical care.
Throughout the last three years, the project has struggled due to the pandemic but has carried on its mission, by the Grace of God. In 2022, we saw the return of the annual Neema Christmas Dinner, where thousands of orphaned and impoverished children came to get a hot meal, cake and a feeling of community and love. New this year was an Easter gathering, where children received cookies, as a special treat. These two events could not have occurred without the generosity of our sponsors and our amazing team of volunteers.
As well, in 2022, The Masunkwe Project, our sustainability project, continued to grow beans, coffee and other crops, to feed the village of Masunkwe, to raise funds to improve the village’s living conditions and provide a safe place for the children in our care.
Finally, in 2022, we also have been able to provide school fees for many students, who otherwise, could not receive an education. Students like Dan and Marjorie thank you, our sponsors, for changing their lives.
God Bless you for making a huge difference in the lives of the children in the care of Neema Child Project. We are optimistic that in 2023, with your assistance, we will be able to continue to grow as a project, and help more impoverished children to be educated and to receive the basic necessities in life such as food, clean water, clothing, medical care and the feeling of being loved.
Sonrise Baby Home
First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors for their contributions towards the new water well. Thanks to your support, we were able to install a second water well, providing clean water not only for the baby home but also for the surrounding community. Your kindness ensures that both the children and the community have access to this essential resource, improving health and well-being for all.
We also want to extend our gratitude for your recent donations, which enabled us to purchase life-saving formula and essential supplies like diapers. Your support directly impacts the well-being of the children at Sonrise Baby Home, allowing us to provide nourishment and medical care to those in need. Together, we are saving lives and giving these children a chance for a brighter future.
In addition to providing for immediate needs, your support has helped us take significant steps towards self-sustainability. With the land generously provided by your donations, we have been able to grow crops and vegetables, ensuring that the children have access to nutritious food. We are truly grateful for your part in making this possible and for helping us become more self-reliant.
We are excited to share with you our latest project: the construction of Sonrise Hospital. This hospital will serve not only the community surrounding the baby home but also the remote villages beyond. With high maternal and child mortality rates in Uganda, this hospital will be a beacon of hope, providing life-saving care during childbirth and offering vital family planning services. Additionally, the hospital will address the HIV/AIDS epidemic by providing medication and support to combat its spread. We ask for your prayers and support as we work towards completing the next phase of construction which $152,000. Your contributions will help us continue this critical project and save countless lives in the process.
