Mentoring Matters

The Hilliker Family at New Life Ranch

Hi! We are the Hilliker family and we are missionaries at New Life Ranch in Colcord, OK.  After serving at His Mansion Ministries in Deering, NH for over 12 years God called us to Colcord, OK in 2015.  It is a privilege to serve here and build relationships among the Cherokee people in Oklahoma.  Our ministry here, in sharing the gospel of Christ, is a ministry of mentoring and discipleship.  We work among the Cherokee people offering a mentoring ministry to the kids/teens on the reservation.  Each week we host chapel in the public school where students come and hear God’s Word being shared. We also offer a weekly bible study to the woman on the reservation that I (Karen) lead.  God is allowing us to continue to expand the ministry in meeting with various families on the reservation and providing counseling for issues surrounding substance abuse, trauma, parenting issues, etc.  In addition to mentoring Seth serves as the full time mechanic at the ranch and teaches a small engines class to young men in Colcord. Through this time, they study scripture together and learn more about the character of God.  During the summer New Life Ranch provides 9 weeks of summer camp, in addition to a leadership development program.  It is a joy to serve here and see God at work in the hearts of many people through mentoring, discipleship and camp ministry.

This past year we have seen amazing ways God has opened doors of opportunity to minister.  We know from scripture how deeply God cares for the physical needs of all people and this year we were given the opportunity and the means to meet the need of physical hunger and clothing needs in various forms. This opened up a lot of opportunity to share about God and Him as our provider.

This year we also witnessed God grow the small engines class and the involvement of some local fathers in the program.  This has been the goal all along, in wanting to work along both kids/teens as well as the fathers/caregivers.  In sharing the gospel with these kids and teens we desire to minister to the family unit as a whole and see God transform the entire family unit.

As a family we have the privilege of being a part of this unique ministry and seeing God at work among kids, teenagers and families.  We see God bringing hope amidst issues of gambling, substance abuse, and issues of neglect.  The power of the gospel is changing the lives of many on the reservation!
